From the outset, this was destined to be a very special project. We were required to provide the homeowners with a fully-integrated system to complement one of the largest residential projects in Queensland.
Not only did the system design have to fit seamlessly into the home’s aesthetic, it also had to be easy for all family members and guests to use. With this in mind, we set out to provide a comprehensive technology solution for this grand home, detached guest houses and adjoining aircraft hangars. All buildings have been designed as standalone entities, yet can still share the main home’s extensive home entertainment and technology infrastructure, thanks to several high speed fibre connections that were implemented to run between each structure.
Two gatehouse IP intercoms and extensive CCTV camera surveillance are seamlessly incorporated into a Savant iPad/iPhone interface, making for a completely integrated intercom solution. The Savant home automation system effortlessly controls all facets of the home’s smart technology such as air conditioning, home entertainment, security, surveillance, fireplaces, irrigation, motorised window fittings and access control to name just a few. It also provides real time live feedback of power usage and water tank levels for day-to-day monitoring.
Home entertainment is a stand out feature of the home, thanks to a myriad of source devices including a Kaleidescape media server. All sources are distributed digitally to 14 independent areas, allowing occupants to enjoy no compromise high definition audio & video in all areas of the home. There are two surround sound zones which include a state of the art media room, complete with a 3D plasma television, while the master bedroom cleverly conceals a surround speaker system utilising cutting edge invisible speakers that also serve high quality audio to the rest of the home. Additionally, a C-Bus lighting system controls energy management and preset lighting scenes while also running via a custom designed scheduler. The home virtually controls itself for day-to-day mundane tasks, giving the owners the luxury of living in this beautiful home whilst not being a slave to it.
Outdoors, the technology continues. An extensive weather proof high output audio system has been designed for the manicured lawn and pool area, incorporating four separate subwoofers that are buried into the ground and 12 speakers that cleverly camouflage into the landscape and natural surrounds. In addition, the adjoining Pool Pavilion has been equipped with a 75’’ LED television and boasts an audio system that would be the envy of any commercial nightclub.
Needless to say, this project shows that even the most complex of systems can be a breeze to use. By providing the highest quality products, the owners of this amazing property now have an enviable home fully equipped with the latest in technology to accommodate their families needs now and well into the future.
This large modern home in Melbourne is the winner of a National NECA award for Best Domestic Electrical project. With Lighting, Security, CCTV, Intercom, HVAC, Blinds, and a 17-Zone distributed AV system including Home Theatre all controlled by Savant, it epitomises a fully integrated home when done right!
With a love for parties and entertaining, Savant was the perfect choice for the client to control all music and video sources throughout the home. Being able to control all aspects of their home via a single app on an iPhone/iPad made the system a delight for the client to use.
A highlight for Argus Technologies who were responsible for all electrical works and smart wiring, was the integration of the clients hidden Cigar Room and Secret Garden featuring a traditional red telephone box.
A key element to the success of this custom design was the engagement of client, architect, interior designer and builder in the early stages of the project. Being able to address the expectations of all stakeholders aided in producing a well thought out and designed Savant system.
The client’s brief was to create a home that “lives” the way his family does. He envisioned a unique, comfortable, and secure environment for all family members to gather and enjoy.
As a central hub for his daughters, nephews, nieces, wife and mother, Look & Listen were to ensure the system was easy to use for all whilst fully catering for every individual control aspect and user requirement.
High on the client’s list was security, he wanted to ensure that all family members and guests had easy and simple keyless access to the property at all times.
Comfort and sustainability was also a high requirement. One of the goals with the architectural design of this unique property was to ensure that passages and pathways were created all the way through the building, from ground floor to loft. This was to create natural convectional cooling in an effort to reduce the need to switch on the air conditioning system. To achieve this, the architect’s concept and brief was to have the electronic motorised louvers automated along with the HVAC system, the idea was to have these two cooling method intertwined to co-exist and complement each other. This has turned out to be one of the key successful aspects of this high end project.
High quality matching aesthetics such as custom power points, together with technologies to enhance the property’s low maintenance qualities, were no less important to the overall functionality requirements. Careful planning of every aspect became absolutely crucial to achieving the levels expected.
